United Airlines is reportedly set to resume hundreds of flights it had suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
The carrier will, however, operate at 30% of its capacity in July, according to USA Today.
The news comes as nations begin to reopen their economies and airlines see an uptick in bookings.
United Airlines is going to restore 140 nonstop routes within the United States, reported the journal citing an email from the carrier.
A majority of the destinations the airline is going to fly are business hubs, such as New York City, Seattle, and Philadelphia.
It is also resuming flights to the following Latin American destinations sometime in July: Belize City, Buenos Aires, Guatemala City, Liberia (Costa Rica), Lima, Montego Bay, Panama City, Punta Cana, Queretaro, Mexico. Quito (Ecuador). San Luis Potosi (Mexico). San Pedro Sula (Honduras) and San Salvador.
American Airlines is also restoring some of its flights. The carrier is planning to fly 55% of domestic schedule and 20% of international schedule in July 2020 compared to this same last year, according to the carrier’s news release.
It is certain that there is an increased interest in air travel, although the fear over the virus is lurking in unexpected corners. This month 100,000 Americans are traveling by air compared to the 32,000 in April.
Southwest Airlines is also preparing to restore services to most of the major cities across the United States.
What is more, Spirit says it is getting up to add more routes and resume flights to international destinations, including Guayaquil, Ecuador.
